Gregory Noel Crawford

Gregory Noel Crawford, well-known defense attorney in Savannah passed away on November 1, 2024, at the age of 65, after a brief, unexpected illness.

Greg was born in Savannah on May 26, 1959, to Ralph Lloyd Crawford and Peggy Brannon Crawford, who preceded him in death. Greg was a 1977 graduate of Savannah Country Day School.  After briefly working in Atlanta for 2 years, he graduated from the University of Georgia in 1982, and from Georgia State University College of Law in 1987, and opened his law practice in 1988. Greg was a devoted father and loved spending time with Stella on the water. In addition to the love they shared for each other, they both had a passion for blue Slurpees. Greg was an avid baseball fan! He had an encyclopedic knowledge of “America’s Pastime,” wowing people with his knowledge of stats and facts even at an early age. He was a literary connoisseur with a special love for history.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.  A private burial will be held in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

GUEST BOOK

Today, I find myself reflecting on the incredible life of Greg Crawford—a man whose spirit, dedication, and love touched all of us in profound ways. It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter in his honor, especially remembering the beautiful bond he shared with his little girl, Stella. To know Greg was to know a man who wore his heart on his sleeve, and Stella was undoubtedly the brightest star in his universe. Greg was truly Daddy’s little girl’s hero. The way he spoke about Stella, with a sparkle in his eye and warmth in his voice, was a testament to the deep love and pride he had for her. He cherished every moment spent with her, whether it was teaching her something new or simply enjoying a quiet evening together. He poured his heart into being a father, and his commitment to Stella was a reflection of the integrity and passion he brought to every aspect of his life. As a trial lawyer, Greg fought fiercely for his clients, embodying the very essence of what it means to be a champion for justice. He didn’t just represent them; he became their advocate, their voice in the courtroom. His unwavering dedication and passion for his clients were evident in every case he took on. Greg understood the importance of standing up for those who needed it most, and he did so with an intensity that inspired everyone around him. He was a true warrior, always ready to go the extra mile to ensure that justice was served. Beyond the courtroom, Greg had a zest for life that was infectious. He had a particular passion for driving his Mercedes Benz, reveling in the way it handled the road. There was something about the precision and power of that car that mirrored his own approach to life—bold, dynamic, and always in control. Greg’s enthusiasm was palpable, and it was one of those little joys that made him uniquely him. But perhaps what stood out most was Greg’s remarkable sense of humor. If you could get him to laugh, you had his undivided attention. His laughter was a melody that drew people in, creating connections that lasted a lifetime. He had a genuine ability to make those around him feel valued and appreciated, turning even the most ordinary moments into something special. As we come to terms with the loss of such a good man, let us remember Greg not just for his accomplishments, but for the love he fostered, the laughter he shared, and the integrity he embodied. He was a devoted father to Stella, a fierce advocate for his clients, and an incredible friend to many. Though he may no longer be with us, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. In honor of Greg, let us carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering integrity. Let us support Stella, ensuring that the bond they shared remains a guiding light in her life. Together, we will celebrate the incredible man he was and the lasting impact he has left on us all. With heartfelt remembrance, Chris Haupt

- Asia brown & The Browns family , Savannah , Ga

Greg was a special person and a special attorney. If he represented you, you had a ferocious advocate on your side. No one could ask for more. I met Greg the year he arrived and I watched how he progressed through the ranks. He earned his commissions on the battlefields of law. He asked no quarter and gave none. I am sure he was a prosecutor’s worst nightmare. He also was a very charming man - when he wanted to be. There will only be one Greg Crawford and that is quite a life’s achievement. May he rest in peace and may his family find comfort in the fact the he was a highly respected lawyer and achieved so very much in his life.

- Bobby Phillips, Savannah, GA

Greg was our neighbor in Herb River Bend. Stella was our granddaughter’s friend in preschool. What a devoted and proud daddy Greg was! God bless all who knew him and will miss him!

- Martha Nesbit, Savannah, Georgia

Greg was truly an original. Additionally, he was just a genuinely great guy. I'll miss his stories, his wit, and his outside the box thinking. My condolences to his family, especially his daughter Stella of whom he couldn't have been more proud.

- Bonnie Jones, Savannah, GA

They say the good die young and that couldn't be more true. If you had the privilege to know Greg you were lucky. Harsh on the outside with a heart of gold. Greg was a true lawyer, he fought for his clients, he demanded justice be severed. Being a criminal defense attorney was Greg's god given gift. He rarely took vacation because of his dedication to his law practice. I got to know an even better side of Greg after his daughter Stella was born. She was the twinkle of his eye and the light of his life. He almost never told her no! Greg was stubborn but determined. The last few months were a roller coaster but he put in a good fight! I even got the last word in a few disagreements. Even at his weakest he had a positive outlook. As heart breaking as it is for Stella not to have her daddy, she was blessed beyond measure to be able to call Greg dad. I witnessed a bond that was so special! I was able to be apart of some wonderful memories that I will cherish forever! May your legacy live on. As your mother always said, "This life and one more" Rest in Peace Greg

- Amber Smith, Savannah , Georgia

I was very saddened to hear of Greg’s passing. What a great legend and a no-nonsense kind of man! He helped me out a time or two and he always laughed at me while giving his lecture. Savannah has lost a smart and vibrant light. Rest In Peace Greg.

- Susan Sancomb Murdoch, Savannah , GA

I’m so sorry. Greg was such an amazing friend to me all of my adult life, I worked in his office, was his secretary/personal assistant and housekeeper up until the last time I saw him. Tomorrow would have been 2 weeks since I saw him. I had cleaned his house, took him to the office to cancel court for the week and made sure he was as okay as he could be before I left. I’ve been thinking of him and trying to reach him ever since. I will miss him forever. I’m so very sorry to you all.

- Amy Cudihy, Rincon , Ga

- Shearouse Family , Bloomingdale, ga

Greg was a lawyer that believed in ZEALOUS advocacy. He was a true gladiator for the constitution and his clients. Bobby Phillips said it best, "he asked for no quarter and gave none." I remember watching him in court as a young lawyer and thinking to myself, "I don't know if I can maintain that level of energy!" Greg never sugar coated his position or feelings. That level of genuine transparency (good, bad or indifferent) is rare. I will miss his personality and courageous nature. When Dylan Thomas wrote “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” I imagine he had in mind people like Gregory Noel Crawford. As time goes on and Stella looks back at these comments, I pray that she find comfort in knowing that her father was more than just a lawyer, he was a force of nature.

We will read and share your tributes with her throughout our lives and make sure that Greg’s legacy never fades.
